Lady

MANIFESTO

Who could Lady Macbeth have been.. if she hadn’t taken her husband’s last name?

SYNOPSIS

Perhaps no woman is considered greater villain than the ambitious, cunning and destructive Lady Macbeth in William Shakespeare’s Macbeth (1623). And sure, Lady Macbeth was responsible for goading her husband into regicide. But who might this character - referred to in the First Folio only as “Macbeth’s wife”, “Macbeth’s lady”, or just “lady” - have become in a different life, freed from her husband’s influence?

ACTIVISM

What is a wife? And what is left to a woman, who takes on her husband’s name, protection and entire identity?
