Fat, Black and Ugly

MANIFESTO

Catharsis. For all who never had their story told.

SYNOPSIS

Statement from the artist: Fat, Black and Ugly is an extension of my soul and posture for how I live my life. It’s a story about a girl starved of love, riddled with self hate who finds healing through radical truth and honesty.

I wrote this play because I needed to see myself out of my own circumstance. I spent so much time in shame and isolation for the things that have happened to me and away from the people who have hurt me. I knew that was no way to live and I wanted to be free. This play was my ticket out.

Writing it continues to be cathartic and with humility I offer the same to others. It is a personal and universal story with transferrable healing power. If I accomplish nothing in this life than this work, then I would have done everything I know I was born to do.

ACTIVISM
